von Henry Dissing in den Nordic Macromycetes (2000) werden die beiden Arten unterschieden, und zwar so:
H. abietis
Frb 10-25 mm high; apothecia cylindric, 1-2 x 1 mm, yellowish brown; stem 8-18 x 0.2-0.5 mm. Sp 13-17 x 2-2.5 µm. - On needles of Abies, Picea, Pinus; autumn.
H. pusilla
Frb 5-10 mm high; apothecia campanulate, 0.5 x 0.5 mm, yellow; stem 7-10 x 0.3 mm, concolorous with apothecium or slilghtly darker. Sp 13-15 x 2-2.5 µm. - On needles of Pinus; autumn.
